just came across a rather interesting passage in the philosophy book i am reading. well, the author is trying to explain how Hume view passions and emotions compared to the impressions we get through our senses. Anyway, he writes that our emotions are similar to our impressions in the way they are both rather vivid, alive and intense. Everyone who has ever experienced being happy or scared, jolly or sad, should immediately understand what Hume means when he says that emotions are just as vivid as impressions through our senses. And here is the rather interesting example the author makes: The joy of getting a good grade on your exams can be just as alive and intense as the view of a sunset. haha. well, that is what i call ecstatic happiness for narcissus. and it is rather fascinating that he points to confirmation of intellect as the most intense sort of emotions. why not go for the good, old classical loooove? sooo, it is as i thought. there is a narcissus inside of most of us - the need of being confirmed and valued.

rather marvelous, i´d say. As i am reading philosophy these days, i get even more inspired to go to Paris - especially to see the magnificent gothic architecture from the middle ages - such as Sainte-Chapelle and Notre-Dame. You see, i read about how you might draw parallels between the great gothic churches and the philosophy of Thomas Aquinas. His goal was to build bridges between faith and science, religion and philosophy. Religion and philosophy should all be gathered underneath one roof - in a great "building of thoughts". And just as the gothic churches with its dizzyingly-tall never-ending towers were suppose to point to God, Thomas´s "building of thoughts" should also point to the same master. Whereas, there is not necessarily any contradiction between thought and faith. I like that whole idea.

Soo, as i am entering the one building (of thoughts), is should also get the opportunity to enter the other ones (the gothic churches i Paris). In my opinion, at least:)

so, i have always thought that the old, quirky-looking grandma style is kind of cool. and apparently, some people agree with me, such as the 13-year-old fashion blogger tavi gevinson. i´m mean - she is quite a genius in the way she dresses - incredibly creative and bold.

ghost world - such a fascinating film. seriously. uhm. incredibly witty and sarcastic. interesting fashion-wise. exotic music. greeeeat acting. but mainly, the script is super good - aaand the moral is that the quirky outcast, such as the obsessive antique-collectors or music-geeks turn out to be the "cool ones". haha. so, if i were you, i would definitely check it out if you haven´t seen it yet!

all right. another attempt to actually start blogging. let´s see how it goes, shall we? : )

uhm. well. so what am i up to these days? i am back in norway after 6 months or so in california. atm i am looking for work, trying to get some reading done as i will hopefully pass my examen philosophicum aaand hopefully be able to travel a bit.

so, what am i gonna blog about? maybe not so much what i dooo (as i am basically gonna read a lot, be out in the nature, listen to music and get myself into the whole culture/creative-thing as i need to make up for my cultural/intellectual absence and ignorance in oh-so-trendy-redding:D ok. i am overreacting, and i am also lying just a tiny bit. anyway.

i´m trying to figure out what i should do this christmas. me and my sister are not going back to norway, because we felt like using this opportunity to do some travelling. and right now, i feel drawn towards cuba. aah. just look at the pictures. mmmm. i dont know a lot about cuba, but i know it is kind of 60ies/retro, loads of vintage cars, colourful buildings, cuban music, caribbean..hm. yeah, i should definitely do a bit more reading on the subject.
anyways; anyone ever been there?
yeah, and btw - now i know another reason why i want to go there. heh, i´m a bit ashamed to say it, but dirty dancing 2 makes cuba look kind of cool:) hih.

internet has been gone for quite a while, so then it is (obviously) hard to follow up on the blog. but eeey - i´m back. heeh.
sooo, what have i been up to lately? hm. well, i have been going to the school for 3-4 weeks or so. and its good and god is good. i have met a lot of cool people, but its like -- everything is still sort of overwhelming and confusing. but im getting more and more used to it.
so i have done a bit of travelling. for instance, i went to the redwoods and the pacific ocean. it was good. we camped by the sea and could hear the waves as we fell a sleep (in a two-persons tent with five girls). yeah.
as well, i went to san francisco last weekend. it was soo good. i visited my oh-so-cool sister, gaazi. we went to haight ashbury and visitied some second-hand shops. and i was way too exited, so i couldnt buy anything, even though i found loads of cool stuff. wierd. i know. but, i´ll be back! afterwards, we went to a sondre lerche consert which was great. we talked to him afterwards, and took a sort of awkward-looking picture. haha. well, it is kind of silly really - taking pictures with "celebrities". but i mean, it was fun though. and it was such a beautiful concert hall, and we ate the best greek food i have ever had. mmmm. the next day, gaazi had to go to school so was all by myself, walking the streets of san francisco. first it was a bit intimidating, cause i didnt really know the city at all. but then i got a map and the location of urban outfitters - and i was moooore the fine. aaw. i spent probably three hours at the store. afterwards i took a bus to find the people i was riding with, and we went to ikea. jiihi.
when i got back to redding, i spent one day at home and then i was off to a retreat/camp in the mountains/forest. it was freezing, but fun. we talked about viking metal. haha.
this weekend i have been to a rodeo with cowboys. weelll, not exactly an activity of my taste - but i mean - i guess it is requierd to experience some of the true american culture while you are in the states. and we went to some thrift stores and drove some scooter. yeah. and i have been jogging the park by the river. so good. refreshing as the weather is getting colder.
puh.
this was a lot of information. hope you are not sick of me already, cause i´m thinking i might start blogging again: ) and so should you, cause i will definitely read your blog.

its kind of late, so i should go to bed some time soon. but i love just hanging out with my mac, eating raisins and nuts, drinking tea and listening to music late at night.

now i have been in redding for a couple of days. everything is pretty overwhelming really. everything is sooo big, and there is soo many people here as well. in a way, it all feels like a surreal blur. but --- i suppose that it will all become more clear when i´m settled in. for instance, we cannot move in to our appartment yet (which btw has a pool and a jacuzzi). soo, we are living a bit here and there --- like the first night when we arrived in redding; we did not have a place to stay, so we slept in the rented car, completely full of luggage.

puh - i wont bore you any longer with my first impressions.

oh dear, i feel like picasso and the modernists - i have lost central perspective. well, uuuhm - i haven´t. buuuuut, i feel fairly dizzy at the moment.

in both history, norwegian and english, we have been focusing on nietzsche, modernism/post modernism. They all felt alienated and distant. I guess we all feel that way from one time to another.

it is saturday night (ok, it is only 9 p.m.), and i sit in my room studying for a paper that has to be finished by friday. and the thing is, i have time to do it in the upcomming weekdays, but i choose to do it now. why? because it is fascinating reading about nietzsche, freud, hamsun, post-modernism/modernism and all that.
guess i´m gonna watch a movie later though.

record reviews - is it a good thing or a bad thing? i mean, i love to read it, but am i too easy to influence? if i read a great record revew, it is not like i immediately like the album. but if we look at it the other way around, i have noticed that if i really like an album, and then i read a horrible record review of it........well, i don´t think the album sounds just as good then..
record reviews, are they too influentual and subjective?
i dunno.
well, i wouldn´t mind doing it myself. get paid to listen to loads of records, going to concerts and stating a preference? the job of my dreeeeams.....

High Fidelity. Great book, great film! Nick Hornby is pretty much a genious, and John Cusack isn´t that bad either.

What came first, music or the misery? Did i listen to music because i was miserable? Or was i miserable because i listened to music? Do all those records turn you into a melancholy person? People worry kids playing with guns and watch violent movies, but what about the thousands of songs about rejection, hearbreakes, misery and loss? That scars you forever.

What really matters is what you like, not what you are like. You wouldn´t want to leap into a relationship with a woman who owned every Julio Iglesisas records ever made. This might seem a bith harsh, but there is an important and essential truth contained in the idea, and the truth is that these things matter, and it´s no good pretending that any relationship ha a future if your record collections disagree violently, or if your favourite films wouldn´t even speak to each other if they met at a party.

hahahaa. told you. hilariously great book and film. writing a literary essay on the book atm, and to be honest - i enjoy writing it.

i´ve always wondered how to define my style and the music i like. i know genres and definitions often can become limitations to artistic flow..but anyway. i´ve always been kind of fascinated of different kinds of youth sub cultures, which often spring out of a music scene. if you take the inderock, the grunge for example - these music grenres have very much turned into a life style. just take a look of how the indekids dress!
anyway, my point being; i´ve discovered a new style/genre, which can define the music and the style i like. it´s called tweeeeeeeee. Basically, you just wear a lot of scarves, home knit hats, polka dots patterns, cardigans, cute dresses, colourful pantyhoses and so on.
the twee music is sort of indie pop, lighthearted sounds and shambling guitars.

right now i wished my hair was red and curly, that i had a cute yellow cardigan and a brown pantyhose.

i´m still pretty sad about the fact that i did not get to see kings of convenience on this year´s quart festival --- cause the whole thing got canceled! (still find it rather hard to believe)
anyway - i´m getting all my money back, so that´s pretty great:)
as well, i´ve just now figured out that the whitest boy alive comes to oslo in september, the night i´m leaving for israel. that might leave me with a possibility of first going to the concert, and after we´ll just drive to the airport and catch the plane.

i´m changing a bit of my layout. seriously - colourful vintage fabric is simply wonderful. it makes me want to go back a few decades. it makes me want to go to thrift storels, flee markeds, second-hand shops, i want to start making my own clothes, portobello road marked --- an so on.
point being: i don´t want to do school and homework. not at the moment at least. i´m sick of history and norwegian. dryyyyyyy and boooooooring.
btw, im reading a really great book atm: about a boy. haha. i love nick hornby and his sarcasm and irony. still it´s a bit serious and thought provoking as well.

so now internet is back for good-- at least i hope. so then i can start bloging again. lately i have been like really busy. so much to do about school, but now i have really decided on which courses i´m gonna take for this semester. english is one of them, so therefore i chose to blog in english, instead of norwegian. but i guess i´m gonna mix it alot.
anyways -- one really great thing i have been up to lately was the "kamerad og spellemann" festival arranged by emil nikolaisen in moi, rogaland. everyone says it was the weirded rock festival ever, and i have to agree. BUT it was sooo goood. i really enjoyed the loch ness transistor, serena maneesh and sufjan stevens (!!!)during the concerst, i was standing right in the midde, in the front. serena maneesh with help from sufjan stevens made sort of nois, but really great nois for 45 minutes, equal one song! so her´s some pictures i took:)

ja, jeg vet det - bloggen min har gått inn i sommer/dvalemodus. og ja, jeg vet det - kanskje ingen en gang har merket det. anyways, jeg lover hyppige oppdateringer og spennende stoff til høsten. da får jeg koblet min egen mac opp til internett, slik at jeg får postet mitt eget stasj:-) vil også da poste bilder fra skottland/england. yehii.

jaja. i´m off to øyafestivalen om et par timer. gleder meg som en unge til å se sigur rós(!!!!) og the dodos. Ellers har jeg planer om å få med meg okkervil river, the national, lightspeed champion, sonic youth..og kanskje turboneger..bare for elises skyld;-)

den islandske artisten kira kira spiller på mono i oslo, som en del av øya klubbarrangementet - AND I CAN`T GET IN!!! uuuusj. so much for turning 18!! er det ikke flere enn meg som synes det er sååå irriterende?

og ikke nok med det! the whitest boy alive (!!!!) skal spille på stratos, også som en del av øya klubbarrangementet. 20 års grense her også!!

så denne helgen fikk jeg besøk av min gode venninne heidi. vi drog på oslo live festival for å se i´m from barcelona. herlig musikk, vær, stemning:) også på lørdag tenkte vi oss en tur til oslo live for å se datarock..men bare å henge på høyden ovenfor..men så fikk vi visst gratisbilletter:) yeaj. disse billettene brukte vi til å få dra på førpremiere på filmene once og the bank job. herlige filmer begge to! once er en irsk, rufsete lavbudsjettsmusikal, mens the bank job er en erkebritisk thriller basert på en sann historie; korrupsjon, MI5/6, det "perfekte kupp". jaa..

elise tok veien fra indre telemark for å besøke meg. vi var først og fremst i oslo og satt i parker, tittet i butikker på grünerløkka, i botanisk hage på tøyen, så premieren på narnia. også satt vi utenfor kontraskjæret...og prøvde å bestemme oss om én kul sang på oslo live festival var verdt 200 kr. guess not. dance er så og si den eneste kule sangen til justice..mens resten er bråk og skrål.
jaja. det ble heller åpen post og dyne og puter.

kjøpte tre par solbriller. en t-skjorte, to dvder og sigur ros sitt nye album. veldig fint. litt mer livlig og lekent en de forrige:)

english countryside

ofte skulle jeg ønske at jeg bodde på den engelske landsbygda...countryside:) jeg ville drukket english tea og scones til frokost, jeg ville hatt en pen english accent, jeg ville gått i mye tweedklær i jordfarger..kanskje dette er en av grunnene til at jeg elsker hjartet på rette staden, miss marple og en hushjelp til besvær.
klærne er gamle loppemarkedkupp som mamma gjorde for maaange år siden. ubleket hvitt og brunt er fint sammen.

aaaah, 70-tallet...det er noe spesielt med det tiåret altså:) slengbukser, store solbriller, vide skjørt, naturlig hår, kvinner kan kle seg slik de vil, kunsterisk utfoldelse..jaa. og annie hall er en fin film som gjenspeiler denne tiden perfekt:) regi og hovedrolleinnehaver woddy allen spiller mot diane keaton...veldig gode prestasjoner:) new york city på sitt beste. mhm. god film, anbefaler den. dette er forresten også woddy allens gjennombruddfilm.

awwawawa. i love second hand. jaa. etter å ha gått ganske grundig gjennom skapet mitt har jeg funnet ut at jeg har alt for mye klær, og har dermed endret shoppetaktikk:) den er som følgende: bare kjøpe secondhand og ellers små røverkjøp -- you know...kupp! det er en herlig følelse å ha kunne kjøpt noe virkelig kult til en billig penge. jeg liker også ting/klær som er "one of a kind". i tillegg er second hand miljøvennlig, og plaggene har gjerne "sjel" også:) i tillegg går pengene ofte til et godt formål: uff (u-landshjelp) fretex (frelsesarmeen), loppemarkeder (tja..misjonsland, skolekorps, polenturer, hjelpearbeid). jaa. i tillegg florerer det av 60- og 70-tallsplagg når det er secondhand...mens nye klær...det blir jo 60-tallsstill à la 2008? huh?

bildet over er vel og merke ikke second hand, men heller røverkjøp. jaaa. så billig og så kult:)

jeg har funnet ut at oslo ikke er en alt for trivelig by...heller ikke så spennende...lei av kjedebutikker, lite vennlige mennesker..generelt har oslo litt lite å by på....jeg vil flytte til....san fransisco...london...paris...new york....reykjavik...dublin...gode byer:) vel..kanskje ikke alt er så mye grønnere på den andre siden av gjerdet? who knows? det finner jeg vel egentlig ikke ut før jeg tar selve steget... i går var jeg i alle fall litt rundt og forbi oslo..både alene og med anette..satt i parken og spiste cookie, drakk iste og leste nylon (herlig blad!!).

deretter prøvde jeg litt klær. kjøpte det gråe high waist skjørtet med bukseseler:) kjøpte litt annet også..poster senere..også var jeg på loppemarked i går også..bilder kjem:)

tjoooho. my iphone got healed:) jeg fikk en iphone importert av mine foreldre fra usa i bursdagsgave, men den varte ikke lengre enn i noen uker, ettersom jeg klarte å drukne den i veska mi..også skjedde noe sprøtt: jeg forsikret meg i flere uker etterpå at den var død, og bestemte meg for å kjøpe en ny iphone, men det var utsolgt overalt: både i redding og san fransisco. også er det sånn at man må tegne et amerikansk abonnement for to år når man kjøper den nå... så derfor fikk jeg ikke kjøpt noen ny iphone like vel.. også nå, for et par uker siden ringer broren min meg på venninna mi sin mobil: han ringer fra iphonen min som ligger hjemme:) yeaahii. it got healed:) han hadde bare skrudd den på helt vanlig, også bare fungerte den:) yeahi.
en annen gla´nyhet er at quarten betaler tilbake penger for billettene, selvom jeg fortsatt er litt sur for at den ble avlyst... men så kommer jeg nå visstnok inn på både storåsfestivalen og hove gratis... sååå jaaa. bør vel ikke være så misfornøyd:)

mmmm..nå nyter jeg late dager i det fine været:) i det siste har jeg grillet masse, badet, solt meg, vært på hyttetur og lest:) og i natt var jeg ute å så utekino på stort lerret: juno:) ååå, for en herlig film. liker at det er sånn indiefilm, litt sånn sær...
nå skal jeg ut å jogge 3000-meteren i solsteken.. yaaj. huffameg. alt lærerne får oss til å gjøre..

i dag skulle jeg og elise lage utformingen til "pc-plakaten" i medie......det endte opp med at vi helst hadde lyst til å bruke et bilde hvor vi tråkker på hele greia...eksamen og alt pensum er ferdig, like vel har lærere veldig lyst til å fylle opp timer med etter eller annet unødvendig..yeaj.
i dag har jeg forresten blitt en erfaring klokere: lakserød og turkis er virkelig en kræsj...men på en annen side....jeg liker kombinasjonen av kræsj og match:)
i dag har jeg sunget på lille lørdags "så gi meg en riflede pommes frites og en blanding av thousand island, i fraa tutee-biii-iiil-stasjonen" :D
jeg liker bård og harald. jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
og bestemte meg for å ikke dra på coldplay konserten. funnet ut at jeg ikke liker de såååå godt..
også har jeg badet masse i dag --- digg:)

jeg ryddet i skapet mitt forleden...og da kom jeg over en god del luer...fant ut at jeg bare i lillafargen har hele 7 luer:) jaaa - jeg liker luer, jaaa - jeg liker lilla. også kom jeg over en good del kjoler og skjerf:) mitt alltime favorittantrekk er en søt kjole, artig strømpebukse, en slapp lue, et spenstig skjerf og converse på beina:)
ouiiiii. nå er jeg forresten ferdig med alt som heter skolearbeid! trenger bare å møte til timer... så nå skal jeg nyte late dager ved vannkanten, grilling, blomster, fotografering, lesing i gresset:) gleder meg til festivaler jeg:)

jaa. jeg liker bildene til gavin watson. først og fremst tar han bilder fra skinheadsmiljøet, og lot dem fremstå som arbeidsklasseungdom som hadde en forkjærlighet for musikk og motekoder, fremfor steriotypiet "bøllete rasister". Doc Martens-sko og bukseseler er virkelig kult!
fotografiene til gavin watson skal visst også ha inspirert til this is england filmen. som forresten også er veldig bra:)

apropos mary-kate olsen...jeg liker solbrillene hennes. aller mest er hun kanskje kjent for de oversized 60-talles solbrillene sine, men de jeg ønsker å legge til samlingen min nå er et par runde john lennon solbriller (øverste bilde) og noen andre litt større runde..de vil jeg ha med hvit innfatning:) allerede har jeg et par john lennon solbriller...men de er er litt vel småå.. jeg vil ha oversized john lennon solbriller.. finnes det?! :)

hvorfor er det slik at skjeggete menn lager god musikk!? her har vi et godt utvalg av dyktige musikere med skjegg: thomas dybdahl, kjartan sveinsson fra sigur ros, john lennon, iron and wine fyren og devendra banhart. tjaaa...kanskje skjegget synboliserer det at de er lite selvhøytidlige og forfengelige, de legger fokusen på musikken...men en må jo si at skjegget ser utrolig kult ut også da:)

new folk / folk´n roll

jeg liker lydverket. lydverket er braaa. bedre enn å gjøre matte. anyway, nå introduserer lydverket oss for en ny by med særpreget musikk. vi har vært innom mexico city, reykjavik og i går var det london. og jeg er faktisk heeelt enig med hva Time-Out magazine sier: vi er dritt lei alle uk indierockbandene som prøver å etterligne the libertines og arctic monkeys. såå nå står altså new folk for tur. det er behagelig og ikke overdreven imagepreget musikk i det hele tatt. Laura Marling, Noah and the whale og Johnny Flynn and the sussex wit var utrolig herlig.

jaaa!! nå får jeg veldig lyst til å dra til london...har vel egentlig det hele tidne.. men anyway..kanskje jeg bør ta meg en tur dit i sommer:) ja. camden, portobello road market, covent garden market og alle musikkscenene kaller på meg:) jajaja. jeg vil!

jeg poster dette bildet fordid et er kult og fordi det er den rake motsetningen til hva som ikke er fult så kult: nemlig at jeg kom opp i matte skriftlig eksamen. noooooo.
så denne helgen skal jeg altså grave meg ned i tall og regnestykker. det eneste som hjelper meg gjennom dette er masse jordbær, frukt, smoothie og is. mhmmm.

jaaaa. jeg skal på sommerens muligens rareste, men kuleste festival. den finner sted i moi kommune i rogaland (i know!?). det er det som gjør den rar. det som gjør den kul er er at sufjan stevens kommer (!!!!), serena maneesh, the loch ness mouse, ingrid olava, fyren fra madrugada og ellers store deler av resten av nikolaisen familien. grunnen til det er at det nemlig er emil nikolaisen som holder festivalen. han er faktisk kompis av sufjan stevens, og utrolig nok spiller stevens på plata til serena maneesh (who would know?). jaaa, og en annen ting som også gjør festivalen så kul er at sufjan dropper hove og øya til fordel for kamerad og spelemann, til tross for at det er en lavbudsjettsfestival. snakker vi artist med beina godt planta på jorda!? jaaaaaaaaa. sommerens opptur, uten tvil!

tidenes gøyeste sko fyller 100 år i dag: converse:) hipp hurra for at en slik simpel, men herlig kul sko har fått overleve så lenge. skoen representerer nesten en livsstil. selv har jeg fire par converse sko + genser og vesker:)

når jeg snakker om klær og greier liker jeg egentlig ikke å bruke ordet mote..fordi da betyr det jo at det er på mote, og det er ikke nødvendig...det handler om å skape sin personlige stil. og det er derfor jeg er så glad i NYLON, de skriver om "mote" fra the sidewalk instead of the catwalk..well said, sier jeg! Den NYLON STREET er en bok om gatemote fra london, berlin, paris, new york, tokyo, københavn og melbourne. kjøpte den i san fransisco, og det er en by som absolutt burde vært med på lista over verdens topp "mote"byer. her var det mye spennende å se på gata for å si det sånn:)
første bilde er fra klesskapet mitt, og det minnre meg på at jeg er veldig glad i mønstre..gjerne etniske mønstre. og søte blomster. og farger. og lilla. jaaa. jo, også solbriller..som nå teller 12 par..yeahi. solbriller er gøy.

mhhmm..sitter her å øver til fransk tentamen..og begynte å lengte tilbake og drømme om frankrike. collioure, fantastisk idyllisk middelhavsby. savner den. men nå fikk jeg også lyst til å reise til paris..lenge siden jeg har vært der. caféer, elleganse, markeder, motehusene, musikken, trekkspill, gatemusikanter, baguetter, amelié, justice, daft punk, uffie, yann tiersen. jaa. paris har det.
slang med et bilde fra barcelona også, fra samme tur. spennende by det også forresten.

øya-festivalen!!! yaaaj! det skal bli så bra:) gleder meg først og fremst til å se sigur ros, må bli helt magisk. også gleder jeg meg til the dodos, lightspeed champion, sonic youth, og er spent på å høre okkervil river og the national.
blaah. har lekser helt opp til hiiiit nå..på én uke har jeg 3 tentamener, 2 prosjektinnleveringer, én prøve + at det er 17.mai!! how do i make time!?
